Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer Aditya 369 completed 30 years as the movie was released on 18th August 1991. The movie directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, and produced by Sridevi Movies, was a huge success commercially and was also critically acclaimed. The film had Mohini in the female lead role whereas Amrish Puri, Tinnu Anand, and Suthivelu played the supporting roles.
Aditya 369 is the first Indian film based on time travel, and it dealt with exploratory dystopian and apocalyptic themes. Balakrishna starrer received two Nandi Awards for Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction. Later it was dubbed into Hindi as Mission 369 and into Tamil as Apoorva Sakthi 369.
The movie was made around the same time that Hollywood was experimenting with the time travel concept with a series of Back to the Future films (released in 1985, 1989 and 1990), leading to the criticism that the movie was a copy of the franchise.
The movie Aditya 369 is about Prof Ramdas, an eccentric scientist’ invention of the time machine that enables one to go to the past as well as the future. The scientist is also the heroine Hema’s father. While the machine doesn’t work but accidentally it works when a bunch of kids make an attempt to go back in time to thwart a heist.
On the otherside, currently Balakrishna is working with Boyapati Srinu for much awaited movie Akhanda.
