The veteran actress Jayanthi has acted in five hundred movies that span across five languages and has reigned on top, especially in the Kannada film industry, where  the actress was known by the moniker Abhinaya Sharadhe or the goddess of acting.

Now according to the latest report, Jayanathi passed away  on Monday in Bengaluru due to age-related ailment.  She was  76. She was keeping unwell for the past few days.  Her son Krishna Kumar confirmed the news of her death as he stated that his mother was recovering from illnesses, but eventually breathed her last during her sleep.

She has appeared in the Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Marathi languages movies. She  is known for her contributions to southern film industry films from the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s.  She has worked with Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao, MG Ramachandra, Raj Kumar and Rajinikanth, etc.  She has acted in few hit movies like Pedarayudu, Justice Chowdary, Swathi Kiranam, Kodama Simham, and Kondaveeti Simham brought her recognition among the Telugu audiences.

Her real name was Kamala Kumari, but she became popular with her screen name Jayanthi.  She was born in Bellary. Jayanthi has won the Karnataka State Film Awards seven times and the Filmfare Awards two times.
